Ardea Arts is excited to announce 3 New York City showcase performances of our opera in development, BOUNCE The Basketball Opera. In alignment with National Gun Violence Awareness month, these public performances in East Flatbush, Brooklyn will take place at 6 pm Saturday, Sunday and Monday June 25-27, 2016 at Paerdegat Park, in collaboration with the inspirational Shanduke McPhatter and his organization, G-MACC Inc (Gangstas Making Astronomical Community Changes). We are immensely grateful to New York City Council member Jumaane Williams, co-chair of the Mayor’s Task Force to Combat Gun Violence, whose support has been instrumental in making our vision a reality. These showcase performances are part of NY OPERAFEST
Pairing diverse casting with a fresh approach to arts engagement, NYC high school age youth as well as community and NBA leaders are integrated into the production using the great American cultural bridge, BASKETBALL. The June showcases will take place on an outdoor basketball court – rain venue will be announced. Please join us! Bring your blankets, folding chairs and picnics for an amazing experience!
As part of our development partnership with the University of Kentucky Opera Theatre under the musical guidance of Dr. Everett McCorvey, BOUNCE was presented in workshop presentations both last November and just two weeks ago, on April 15th, to enthusiastic audiences.
We very much appreciate the gracious support of all of our partner organizations whose wholehearted belief in BOUNCE has given it the momentum and opportunity to flourish. We look forward to seeing BOUNCE come to life both on and off the court, in parks and venues across the country. Support from Laurie M Tisch Illumination Fund.
